On Thursday 10/5/06, just after 9:30pm, firefighters were dispatched to a hazardous materials incident on Investment Boulevard. They found a hazardous waste storage facility on fire, and ultimately nearly 17,000 residents were urged to evacuate. Click HERE to read about the incident and view photos.

4/30/08 We will be holding a child safety seat event at Super Target in Beaver Creek Commons on Friday 6/27/08, 11a - 2p. Any 2-day or technician are encouraged to participate. For any technicians that need to be recertified, we will have an instructor there to verify your required installations. For more information please contact Jason Nesbit or Howard Miles.

4/28/08 Reminder of the Wake County Firefighters Association quarterly supper / meeting which will be held on Tuesday, 5/13/08, 6:30p at Durham Highway Fire Department. All are welcome to attend! Also, the association now has a new e-mail list for distributing periodic newsletters detailing Association events. If you are interested in subscribing, please click here to go to the web site and click the "Email List" button to sign up.

3/20/08 Reminder to all members that have medical certifications through NC Office of EMS - you will need to login to the new Credentialing Information System (CIS) by going to the NC OEMS website at http://www.ncems.org in order to get your state-issued ID (P-number) and create your profile. Going forward, the CIS will be used to track training, certifications, etc. and will be used in the re-certification process, so it is vital that you get into the system. Instructions and detailed information are included on the NC OEMS web site, but if anyone has questions please contact your officer.

2/24/08 Our MT2000 VHF portable radios have been reprogrammed with frequencies from other departments and counties for use on USAR deployments. These radios have been placed on E2, E3, L1, Tanker 1 and BC 1 apparatus. Please click HERE for the memo from Lieutenant Miles with full details including the channel line-up. 11/4/07 Wake County will be offering Hazardous Materials Operations Plus certification classes on the following dates. All classes are 8a - 6p at the Wake County Fire Training Center in New Hill. To register please call (919) 387-4337 and include your name, class you are registering for, your department, and contact phone number.

PLEASE READ: Important Information about NIMS Training
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 courses are required for ALL members in order to remain on the department roster. These courses can be taken on-line, click the links below to go directly to FEMA's site for each course as well as general information on NIMS. You can also submit the final examinations on-line. Once you receive your certificate please give a copy to Kim so that she can put it in your file.
