CHILD SAFETY SEAT
INSTALLATION / INSPECTION

Is your child safety seat installed in your vehicle correctly? Are you sure? Few things are more important than the safety of our children as we travel the highways and byways.

Our department has personnel trained and certified by the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal in child safety seat installation and inspection. They compare the child safety seats against current recall lists, then go through an extensive checklist to verify that the frame, harnesses, belts, buckles and other hardware are in good working condition. If the child safety seats are already installed, they verify that they have been secured correctly according to manufacturers' instructions, taking into account the vehicle's built-in restraint and air bag systems. Personnel can also perform the entire installation for you.

Anyone can come by Station 3 on Hunter Street Saturdays, 9am-12pm or 2pm-7pm to have their child safety seats inspected and/or installed. Please note that starting September 24, 2005, we are no longer doing these inspections/installations during the business week. Please call ahead, 362-4001, to ensure that someone will be available to perform the inspection. We will also be holding public inspection/installation checkpoints at various locations in our district throughout the year.
