The Apex Fire Department is a combination department with full-time, part-time and volunteer staff.
In July 2002 we brought on three part-time shifts each with three personnel who staff Station 1 during the week. In September 2002 our 24-hour full-time staff officially moved to Station 3. In August 2005 we hired 7 full-time firefighters, 2 full-time engineers and a part-time fire inspector, and started staffing Station 2 with 24-hour coverage. In July 2006 we promoted 3 of our paid staff to Lieutenant. In August 2006 we hired 3 more full-time Lieutenants and 3 full-time firefighters. Currently we have 30 full-time shift firefighters, and 12 part-timers spread across three stations - and approximately 30 - 40 volunteers at any given time. The Fire Chief, Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector along with the administrative staff are at Station 3 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday.
