At 04:42am on Thursday 2/28, Apex Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Mockingbird Lane. Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ladder 3, Batalion Chief 1, Car 1, Car 5, Car 6 and SR 1 all responded, along with Apex EMS, Apex PD, and mutual aid fire units from several neighboring departments. Upon arrival Engine 4 reported flames showing from a mobile home. The occupants managed to escape the flames, and firefighters made an interior attack. Investigators from the Wake County Fire Marshals Office came to assist as well. Temperatures were bitterly cold, in the low 20's that morning, and firefighters' gear froze solid. After performing extensive overhaul, all fire units cleared the scene at 08:57am.
