On Saturday, 27 August 2011, as Hurricane Irene was wreaking havoc along North Carolina's coast, Apex firefighters were dealing with several downed trees in the district. This one fell across Friendship Road, completely blocking the street. Engine 2 and Brush 2 worked for nearly two hours to get the road cleared.
