Apex Jaycees Christmas Parade

1 December 2007

The Apex Jaycees Christmas Parade celebrated its 50th year running on Saturday 1 December 2007. Apex Rescue 1 transported the parade's VIPs (Mayor Keith Weatherly, and several town councilmen and their families) from the Town Hall to their positions at the front of the procession, then joined Ladder 3 and Brush 1 in the lineup.

This was the first year we lined up on the new leg of the Apex Peakway instead of at the usual Hunter Street location. I believe it was the longest lineup in parade history, as floats stretched from the North Salem Street intersection all the way back to Highway 55! Though the new location was probably better in terms of traffic control, we missed seeing the Hunter Street residents who often opened up their houses during past parade lineups and served hot chocolate and cider to chilly participants!

Apex Fire Department apparatus, featuring our firefighters, Firebelles ladies auxiliary, and Sparky the firedog, led the rest of the parade floats down the longest parade route yet, amidst throngs of spectators crowding both sides of Salem Street.
