FDNY Relief Boot Drive Fundraiser
17 September 2001

The Apex Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Apex Fire Department joined with many other Wake County fire departments in an effort to raise money for the New York Firefighters Relief Fund. The official boot drive was scheduled for Monday 17 September 2001, so the prior Saturday we began making preparations like posting a sign out in front of our station. To our amazement, people driving by immediately began donating money, and we scrambled to get our firefighters out into the street to collect it. We were overwhelmed by the public's generosity, and in one short weekend we raised over $70,000!

Lt. Shane Fields gets everyone in a patriotic mood.

Junior firefighters assisted by collecting donations.

The station sign reads "THANKS FOR ALL YOUR DONATIONS WE RAISED $70 GRAND!"
