The Apex Fire Department hosted the first-ever Hurricane Preparedness Day for the Town of Apex on Saturday, 23 July 2005. Each of the town's emergency service departments had informational booths set up, along with NC CERT, Wake County Emergency Management, Wake Med, the town's planning and building departments, WRAL, Apex Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes Home Improvement, the American Red Cross, to educate the public about preparing for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

The Fire Department's junior members sold hot dogs - but in the blistering mid-90-degree heat, perhaps the most popular vendor of all was Ralph's Italian Ices!
