Evans Road Fire, Hyde County

June 2008

Three Apex firefighters (pictured left to right: Lt. Bob Pascucci, Engineer Pete Cirasole, and Engineer Jason Nesbit), traveled to Hyde County in Brush 1 to assist with firefighting efforts at the Evans Road fire from 6/8 - 6/11/08. At that time, the fire had scorched about 40,000 acres and was about 40% contained. Started by lightning on 6/1/08, in two weeks it had impacted 24,402 acres of federal, 502 acres of state, and 15,075 acres of private land. Over 500 emergency personnel were on scene at the time our firefighters were deployed.

Several other departments from Wake County were deployed at the same time, including Morrisville FD, Wake Forest FD, Eastern Wake EMS and Wake County EMS. Apex and Wake Forest firefighters were teamed up to make Task Force 4, pictured at right, and spent some time out on the fireline putting out hot spots.
