STRUCTURE FIRE

Olive Street

7 April 2004

At 00:27 on Wednesday 4/7, we were dispatched to a structure fire on Olive Street. 202 was first on-scene within minutes of dispatch and reported fire showing from the right side of the house. Engine 1 was first-in, with Engine 3, Ladder 1, Engine 2 and Engine 4 close behind. Crews started with two handlines to the front door, made an agressive interior attack and, despite tough heat and smoke conditions, were able to knock the fire back. Car 2 took over command and managed the scene until Car 1 arrived. Car 5 served as safety officer, and Rescue 1 provided support services. This structure was very old, and of balloon construction, contributing to a rapid fire spread to the attic. A 2.5" line with the blitz attack nozzle was brought to the rear of the house and served to control the attic fire from the outside. The fire was marked under control at 01:24. Crews performed extensive salvage and overhaul operations, remaining on scene until 04:24.

Thanks to Apex EMS and Holly Springs who responded to the scene, and also to Fairview who stood by at Station 3 for district coverage.
