I attended the 15th annual Pender County Fire and Rescue Seminar at Topsail Middle/High Schools in Hampstead, NC in mid-January. I took Advanced Arson Investigation, taught by Captain Herman "Blue" Born of the Wilmington Fire Department. One of the highlights of the class was a demonstration given by Kevin Oliver of the SBI, and his accelerant detection K-9 partner Jada. Kevin placed several minute droplets of gasoline along a sidewalk, and to the amazement of the entire class, Jada located all but one, indicating the PRECISE spots by pointing with her nose. And the one spot that Jada missed? Kevin admits that he may have forgotten to put a droplet on that one!
