Apex firefighters were amongst 5000 of America's Bravest from 17 states who were guests at the UAW-GM Quality 500 on Sunday October 7, 2001. We participated in a patriotic pre-race ceremony leading the crowd in the pledge of allegiance to an enormous American flag. We were then treated to great seats from which to watch the race, courtesy of Lowes Motor Speedway.

Organizers asked for 200 firefighters to do a rehearsal of the march around the track for the pre-race show. Not wanting to miss any of the action, all 5000 poured out of the stands to participate.	During the rehearsal we walked right down Pit Road.
