It has been several years in the making - and on Tuesday 2 September 2008 it was finally official! Town of Apex dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony for two major public safety projects - our Station 4 (shown above), and the new police station (shown below) which will replace the existing building on South Saunders Street. Drawings by Stewart Cooper Newell Architects.

Firefighter Ryan Hillen (third from left) was picked from the crowd by Mr. Radford to participate in the fire department ceremony because, as Mr. Radford said, "He looks like the youngest one of the group!"

Council members were obviously well-practiced and had this ceremony down to a science. Mayor Weatherly gave the orders, "First we pose...."

"....then we throw!"

The whole process was then repeated with all the police department representatives

A decent crowd showed up to watch
