Before And After
Fire Trucks Arrive

Bob Ohmann, President of St. Lawrence Homes, is a local businessman who strongly supports the fire service, both locally here in Wake County as well as in his hometown of Lyons, New York. After reading a news article about our efforts to assist the Waveland Fire Department, Mr. Ohmann wanted to help as well. He contacted Waveland Asst. Chief Smith himself, and after hearing first-hand of this department's challenges following Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Ohmann decided to donate a 1965 American La France pumper that he'd just completed restoring in 2004. And as if that wasn't generous enough, he hired two professional truck drivers, one to transport his truck, and one to transport ours, all the way to Waveland.

On Wednesday 1/11, Apex firefighters drove Engine 5 to Bay Leaf Fire Department's Station 1, where it would begin its long journey. The next day, Mr. Ohmann's drivers arrived, loaded up both trucks, and were on the road by mid-afternoon. Bay Leaf Fire Chief Ron Roof provided us with these photos taken at his fire station.
