Late Wednesday afternoon, Engine 1 was dispatched to a smoke investigation on West Williams Street (Highway 55) near the Apex Peakway. They arrived to find the source of the smoke to be an old abandoned house in the woods. Since there was no road to the structure, Brush 5 was dispatched. Upon our arrival there was smoke and flames visible from the second story of the structure. Crews made an interior attack while Engine 3 and Tanker 8 were added to the alarm. With the additional handlines in place the fire was confined to the second story and knocked down.
