Clark County Fire DepartmentStation 11, Las Vegas Blvd. | ![]() |
David and I spent our 7th anniversary vacationing in the southwest. Like we did in 2002, we started out in Las Vegas. On 10 May 2004, I couldn't resist and had to go out in search of some local fire stations. I came across Clark County's Station 11, on Las Vegas Boulevard just a few blocks down from the famous strip.
My timing couldn't have been better. As I wandered into the station parking lot, two of their aerial apparatus were pulling into the bays. They were getting ready to switch out equipment between the primary and the reserve, so I had the perfect photo-op! Many thanks to the on-duty staff who welcomed me into their house and took a few minutes to chat and show me around.
According to their web site, the Clark County Fire Department serves a district of over 8,000 square miles (whoa!!!) and a resident population of well over 1.5 million (this does not include the tens of millions of visitors that flock to the area each year!). In 2003, they ran 93,206 emergency incidents, of which nearly 70,000 were medical, and just under 4,000 were fire-related. Over 500 paid and 350 volunteer personnel staff 37 stations.
The Clark County Fire Department boasts an ISO Class 1 rating. They are also one of less than 100 departments world-wide that have earned recognition by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International as an accredited agency.
