Tokyo Fire Department, Japan

Ginza Fire Station

Back to "Fire Departments Around the World"

During our last family trip to Japan in March 2010, I ventured out on the subways solo (that is, without my parents as translators!!) and found my way to the Ginza fire station. I knew just enough Japanese to tell the firefighters there that I am a firefighter in the US (at least, I think that's what I told them) - and they were nice enough to let me take some photos of their trucks and their crew.

According to the Kyobashi Fire Station (Ginza) web site this station houses one pumper, one aerial and one ambulance.

This fire station is located several blocks from the Higashi-Ginza subway station

The ambulance must have been out on a run, but I was lucky to catch the pumper in the house

Two of the Ginza firefighters posed for a photo

Then they took one for me!

They were just starting to do their apparatus check when I arrived

Without my parents there, I had a hard time communicating with my extremely limited Japanese vocabulary. Note to self: brush up on Japanese firefighting terminology before the next trip!

Aerial apparatus bay is around the corner from the engine's bay

This is a 90-foot platform
