Like most fire geeks, the first order of business when I travel out of town is to scout out the local fire departments and visit as many of them as possible. That is one thing I love about the fire service - whether I'm visiting another department in North Carolina, or across the country, or even on the other side of the world, the firefighters always welcome me into their house and take the time to show me around. It is like having a bunch of big brothers everywhere I go!
It always fascinates me to see how other departments function. In some ways we are worlds apart yet in many more ways we are so similar.
